For the newly diagnosed, the chronic fighters, and the supportive friends and loved ones, this shirt carries a message of hope and community. About My Journey: This product is very dear to me. In 2016, I was personally diagnosed with Sarcoidosis - which at the time I had no clue what it was, how I got it, and how to fix it. But friends, Sarcoidosis is a condition where your body's own immune system, the defense system, goes nuts. Normally, your immune system fights off invaders like germs, but with Sarcoidosis, it starts to attack your own body by mistake. This causes tiny lumps called granulomas to form. In a lot of cases with Sarcoidosis, it stays in the lungs and the lymph nodes, but they can appear on any organ in the body, including the skin. Imagine these granulomas as small, unwanted guests at a party in your body. They're not supposed to be there, and they can cause trouble, like making it hard to breathe, or many other symptoms, depending on where they show up. Also, with your immune system going into overdrive, a common symptom is fatigue, and another is arthritis. A lot of people, in fact a large majority, Sarcoidosis will go dormant after a while, usually within the first few years. There are some unlucky few where it doesn't go dormant, and it continues to attack the body. These are called Chronic Sarcoidosis patients. In some cases, Sarcoidosis where stay where it likes it the most, in the lymph nodes and the lungs, but with Chronic Sarcoidosis patients, the likelihood of it going into other organs is much higher. Cardiac, Neurological and Dermatological issues happen more frequently with Chronic Sarcoidosis patients. No one person with Sarcoidosis is the same, or has the same symptoms. As it is your body attacking the disease, it depends on where those granulomas end up, and what organs they end up in to know how it is going to effect the individual person. Sarcoidosis does not have a cure, but there is quite a bit of research being done on it to help those that suffer with it. My personal journey with this disease has led me here, with whomever may be reading this right now. My journey has been with the traditional, lungs and lymph nodes, so coughing, wheezing, etc can be somewhat normal. Arthritis is also, and has always been, a common factor for me. I'd also blame it for turning my hair gray, but that was probably my kids. It's an ongoing process, but we live with it every day, and those that do live with it you will likely never know what they go through. For more details on my personal journey, please view my blog.
